88Fiero front hub/bearing failure.
I have had allots of problems with my front bearings. After a short time of use at the race track the bearings get lose.
Last Year I installed a
set of after market E-bearing hubs that I bought from Rodney Dickman.
Last Sunday I participated in the second race for this year.
This was the 5th time I used the car at the track with the new set of E-bearing hubs.
During second time practice I suddenly heard a strange sound when turning left.
At first I thought that it was rubber debris from the track that got stuck on my
tires.
Then the scraping sound increased and the car felt unstable during cornering so I let of the pace and went to the pit.
After stopping in the pit I took a firm grip on top of the right front tire and
and forced the wheel in and out and...YEEAA, I could move the top of the wheel
almost 1 inch in and out.
I took of the wheel, caliper and brake disk.
The flange on the hub that holds the wheel was broken of the axle.
This failure has nothing to do with the bearing inside the hub.
I changed to an old GM hub that I had in the toolbox and could continue the rest
of the day.
